From 24 to 28 August 2026, Singapore Convention Week 2026 was held in Singapore. Themed "Timeless Principles, Timely Solutions: Nurturing Trust in a Changing World", this year's Convention Week coincided with the 60th anniversary of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and the 200th anniversary of the establishment of Singapore's modern legal system. It brought together representatives of international arbitration and mediation institutions, independent arbitrators, dispute resolution lawyers and business community representatives from more than 100 countries, with nearly 100 thematic events held throughout the week. Entrusted by Wang Shuai, Chairman of the Hainan International Arbitration Court ("HIAC"), Jerry Li, International Cooperation Specialist of HIAC, attended the events.

During the Convention Week, the HIAC delegate took an active part in a series of high-level events, including the SIAC Symposium 2026, the UNCITRAL Academy, the annual event of the Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC), and seminars hosted by the Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA). The topics covered a broad range of frontier areas, including cross-border investment and commercial disputes, the application of artificial intelligence in dispute resolution, maritime, shipping and commodity trade matters, as well as global supply chain restructuring and geopolitical risks. The delegate also attended the keynote speeches and presentations delivered by leading figures in the international dispute resolution community, including Edwin Tong SC, Minister for Law of Singapore, and Anna Joubin-Bret, Secretary-General of UNCITRAL, gaining in-depth insight into the latest developments and emerging trends in the field of international dispute resolution.

On the sidelines of this premier international arbitration gathering, the delegate exchanged views on HIAC's development with HIAC Board members from China and abroad, including Tao Jingzhou, Michael Hwang SC, Benjamin Hughes, Sundra Rajoo and Fu Qiongfen. The delegate also paid dedicated visits to the Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA), the Asia and Pacific Seed Association (APSA), the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (Singapore) (ASME), as well as renowned business associations and legal service providers including Wong Partnership, Hui Zhong Law Firm, LVM Law Chambers LLC and Stephenson Harwood. In meetings with representatives of the Ministry of Justice of Cambodia, the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) and the Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC), the delegate gave a detailed introduction to HIAC's achievements in building an international commercial arbitration centre, its innovative "arbitration + mediation" dual-track working mechanism, its specialized practice areas such as seed industry arbitration, and its continued efforts to enhance the credibility of arbitration. The delegate also shared the unique advantages of the Hainan Free Trade Port following the launch of its island-wide independent customs operation in fostering an internationalized business environment and supporting high-standard opening-up.

Through multi-tiered and all-dimensional exchanges and dialogues at Singapore Convention Week 2026, the delegate further elevated HIAC's international profile. Going forward, HIAC will continue to deepen exchanges and cooperation with arbitration peers around the world, intensify its outreach efforts overseas, and provide cross-border business parties with more efficient and professional dispute resolution services, contributing to the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port into a preferred destination for international dispute resolution facing the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
